Tsangarides Winery is a small family-run organic winery in the village of Lemona, in the lower mountain country north-east of Paphos. The winery is older and quieter than the better-known Vouni Panayia — operating since the late 1990s, with a focus on organic viticulture, indigenous grape varieties, and hands-on personal tastings. Among Paphos wineries, Tsangarides is the one favoured by visitors who want the quieter, more conversational experience.
The drive from Annabelle is around 45 minutes via the inland road through Tsada. The visit itself takes around an hour, longer if you stay for a tasting and a sit-down.
A Family Organic Winery
Angelos Tsangarides took over the family vineyards in the 1990s and converted them to organic farming — a comparatively rare practice in Cypriot viticulture and a real point of distinction. The winery works principally with indigenous varieties (Xynisteri, Maratheftiko, Mavro, Lefkada) and some international grapes (Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz), all from vineyards within walking distance of the cellar.
The scale is small: production is measured in tens of thousands of bottles a year rather than hundreds of thousands. The result is wines made with care for the place — recognisably Cypriot, recognisably from this specific stretch of the western Troodos foothills, and increasingly recognised on the wider Cypriot wine scene.
Tastings at Tsangarides
Tastings here are personal. Most visitors are taken through the working cellar — fermentation tanks, the small barrel room, the bottling line — by Angelos himself or by a family member, and then sit at one of the long tables for a tasting of six or seven wines, often accompanied by halloumi, olives, and bread from the village. The cost is modest. The wine you taste is the wine you can buy directly on site.
Book ahead — the winery is small and tastings work better when expected.
From Annabelle
Reception will arrange a private car. The drive is around 45 minutes through Tsada and up to Lemona; the road is good and the route is straightforward. Pair the visit with a lunch in Kathikas on the way back, or with a wider Wineries of Paphos day.
