Baths of Aphrodite
The Baths of Aphrodite is a small natural pool fed by a freshwater spring in the southern Akamas Peninsula, surrounded by fig trees and overgrown shade. By tradition, this is where the goddess Aphrodite bathed — and where she met Adonis, the mortal lover whose story is woven through the Cypriot landscape. The site is uncomplicated: a stone-lined pool perhaps four metres across, a path that loops around it, a viewing platform on the bank. Visitors stand at the rail and look in. Swimming in the pool itself is not permitted (the spring is fragile and the water is shallow); the swim happens on the rocky coast a short walk away.
The pool is signposted from the main road just past Latchi, at the edge of the Akamas. A visit to the pool itself takes ten minutes; the wider trailhead and surrounding gardens reward an hour or more.

A Small Pool Under Fig Trees
The pool is fed by a steady spring rising from the rock above. The water is cold and clear; fig trees and overgrown vegetation arch over the basin, dappling the light. The atmosphere is shaded and still; the soundtrack is water on stone and bird-call.
The site has been associated with Aphrodite's mythology since at least the Hellenistic period, when Greek pilgrim and traveller writers described it. The local Cypriot tradition has held to the connection through the medieval, Ottoman, and modern periods; the Lonely Planet edition of fifty years ago described it in much the same terms a contemporary visitor would.

The Wider Site
Beyond the pool, the Baths of Aphrodite site includes:
- The viewing platform — small, with the pool below.
- The trail head — the start of the Aphrodite Nature Trail and the Adonis Nature Trail, both 7.5 km circular routes.
- A small visitor centre with cafe and toilets.
- A coastal viewpoint — a short walk gives the open sea-view back across Polis Bay.
The site is open year-round; entry is free.

From Annabelle
The drive from Annabelle is around 55 minutes, north along the B7 coast road through Polis Chrysochous and Latchi. Reception will arrange a private car or transfer. For a half-day visit, allow two hours including the drive. For a full day combined with the Aphrodite or Adonis trail, allow six hours including driving and lunch.
Pair the visit with a lunch stop at Latchi — the harbour-side fish tavernas are the natural stop on the way back.
The myth. The Cypriot tradition holds that Aphrodite bathed at this spring, and that this was the place she met the mortal Adonis. The myth puts the goddess in a specifically Cypriot landscape — a fresh spring under fig trees, in country that the Akamas still recognisably is.
