Paphos's markets are a different kind of attraction. They are not curated for the visitor — they exist for the people of Paphos and the surrounding villages, and they have for generations. Taking the time to walk through them is one of the easiest ways into the city's everyday life.
The most permanent of them is the covered municipal market in the Old Town of Paphos (Ktima). The weekly farmers' market rotates produce from across the district. Smaller stalls and shops thread through the Old Town's lanes. Bring small notes, a flexible itinerary, and an appetite.
The Covered Municipal Market
The covered municipal market sits on Agoras Street in the Old Town, in a long building with high-arched ceilings that keep the heat off in summer and the rain out in winter. Stallholders sell produce, halloumi and anari from village dairies, leather goods, lace from the Cypriot tradition, household goods, and the steady seasonal stream of village honey, olives, herbs, and dried legumes. The market is busiest in the morning; many stallholders shut up by mid-afternoon.
The Weekly Farmers' Market
The weekly farmers' market is a different animal. Local growers from across the Paphos district come in with seasonal produce — what is ripe, what is in season, what was picked that morning. The selection rotates through the year: spring brings green almonds and the first strawberries; summer, stone fruit and tomatoes; autumn, grapes and figs; winter, citrus, pomegranates, and the bitter greens that show up on every Cypriot table at the turn of the year.
Days and times vary by season — see the Paphos Municipality information or ask at Annabelle reception for current schedule.
Smaller Trading Around the Old Town
Beyond the covered market and the farmers' market, the Old Town carries its own quieter trading life. Family shops along Makariou and the side streets — bakers, butchers, cobblers, fabric merchants, the occasional ironmonger. None of this is a tourist attraction; all of it is part of the texture of the city.
Visiting from Annabelle
Reception will arrange a taxi to the Old Town; the markets sit on its edge. The visit pairs naturally with the wider Old Town of Paphos walk, or, for the food-cultural backbone, our editorial on Food from the Village.
