Coral Bay is the principal sandy beach of the Paphos coast — a broad crescent of golden sand between two limestone headlands, twelve kilometres north of Annabelle. The water is sheltered, gradually deepening, and held a Blue Flag in past years. Lifeguards patrol the season; sun loungers, umbrellas, water-sports kiosks, and beach-side cafés line the bay. It is the default family beach for Paphos, and it is busy in summer.
The drive from Annabelle takes around 20 minutes. Local buses run from Kato Paphos to Coral Bay regularly; a taxi is faster and not expensive.
A Sandy Crescent
The bay itself is around 600 metres long, with sand the colour of weak honey and a gentle gradient into the water — the kind of beach a parent with small children can take in their stride. The headlands at either end are limestone, with shallow rocky pools good for snorkelling at slack tide. The water deepens slowly enough that children can wade out a long way before swimming becomes necessary.
The northern end of the bay is a little quieter than the centre; the southern end is closer to the main concentration of cafés and restaurants.
What's at Coral Bay
Coral Bay is the most fully equipped beach in the Paphos region:
- Lifeguards through the bathing season.
- Sun loungers and umbrellas for rent (small charge).
- Showers and changing rooms.
- Water sports — paddleboards, jet-skis, banana boats, parasailing — from kiosks on the sand.
- Beach-side cafés and tavernas along the road behind the beach.
- Parking — large car parks on either side of the beach access roads, fee in summer.
When to Visit
Summer weekends are the busiest. Quieter days are easier to find on weekdays. The shoulder months on either side of high summer offer a comfortably uncrowded beach with the water still warm enough for swimming. Winter visits work for a walk along the sand and a long lunch at one of the beach-side tavernas.
From Annabelle
A 20-minute drive north along the coastal road. Reception will arrange a taxi or arrange car hire if you prefer the flexibility. Pair the visit with the sea-caves at Peyia immediately to the north — a short walk along the cliff path from the headland at the northern end of Coral Bay reaches the start of the sea-cave coast.
