Theatro Markideio
Theatro Markideio is Paphos's principal indoor theatre — the everyday cultural anchor between the major summer festivals at the harbour castle and the Roman Odeon. Built in 2002 and named after the Markides family, longtime supporters of the arts in Paphos, the theatre runs a year-round programme of Greek and Cypriot drama, music, ballet, contemporary dance, and visiting international productions. The venue itself is modern, comfortable, and intimate at around 700 seats.
The theatre is in central Paphos, a short drive from Annabelle. Performances run through the autumn, winter, and spring; the venue is less busy in high summer when the open-air festivals take precedence.

A Year-Round Programme
The Markideio's strength is its consistency. The major summer festivals are spectacular and short; the Markideio is the place culture happens in Paphos through the rest of the year. The programme typically includes:
- Greek-language drama — both classical (translated ancient drama) and contemporary, often touring productions from Athens or Cypriot theatre companies.
- Music — chamber concerts, recitals, occasional jazz, traditional Cypriot music nights.
- Ballet and contemporary dance — visiting Greek and international companies.
- Children's productions — Greek-language; warmly received by Cypriot families.
- Lectures and cultural events — Cypriot cultural foundations and the local university.
Most performances are in Greek; selected music and dance productions need no translation. The venue publishes its programme months in advance.

What's On
The current programme is maintained by Theatro Markideio. Annabelle's concierge can help with booking and translation of any Greek-language programme notes for guests interested in attending a Greek-language production.

From Annabelle
Reception will arrange a taxi for the evening — the theatre is around 10 minutes' drive from the hotel. Performances typically begin at 8.30pm and run for two hours. Dress is informal; the audience is mostly local.
