‘Caterina: Last Queen of Cyprus’ Staged at Annabelle

‘Caterina: Last Queen of Cyprus’ is the true story of Caterina Cornaro of Venice, who became a devoted queen of Cyprus as well as the pawn of ruthless political schemers seeking to dominate the island. Set in fifteenth-century Nicosia, the play stars Christina Marouchou as the queen. Married in 1472 to King James II of Cyprus, Caterina was pregnant when the king unexpectedly died one year later; a battle by plotters to deprive her of the throne ensued. This original production from Alpha Square Theatre of Nicosia follows the English-language script by Anthie Zachariadou and is directed by Andreas Araouzos. The ensemble has just returned from New York City, where it performed the play in the United Solo Theatre Festival—an annual event of one-actor works from around the globe. Tickets are €4 per person and available at Reception. The performance will be in the Athenaeum Ballroom on 27 December from 17:00 to 18:00.
